“In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome.” 1 John 5:3
Christ’s commands are not burdensome, but a blessing. Man’s expectations can be an unbearable weight of unattainable actions. Like a backpack of bricks, the rigid control of proud leaders enslaves hearts. But joy and peace are the fruit of following hard after what Jesus wants. The yoke of Christ brings freedom, security and rest. Thus, the ultimate expression of love for God is obedience to God. Genuine love gladly obeys the Lord.
Furthermore, our love for the Lord matures as our love for His law grows in intensity and intimacy. How can we say we love God if we remain ignorant of His Word? Our precious Bible is a manual of how to love the Lord well. He defines what makes Him feel loved: reverent worship, joyful praise, humble prayers, forgiveness, generosity to the poor, caring for widows and orphans, proclaiming the gospel and training up the faithful.
“Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.” Psalm 119:165
Is your love for God an expression of your obedience to God? Indeed, you will be tempted to try the world’s ways and wander away from the Almighty’s path of purity. Grace is the gravel God places under your shoes of faith so you won’t stumble on Satan’s slippery path of deception. Trust gives you traction to follow Jesus. Do what Christ expects and you can expect His energy to empower your actions. Obedience pays!
What command is Christ asking you to keep? Perhaps you need to forgive another as God, for Christ’s sake, has forgiven you. A money matter may be haunting your happiness and it is time to write off the debt without writing off the debtor. Pray without ceasing, give without regrets, believe without doubting, love without conditions and forgive without expectations. Your obedience to God is an indicator of your love for God. Thus, by grace, obey well. Freedom is the fruit of following Jesus. Your obedience helps others obey!
“If you love me, keep my commands.” John 14:15
Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me the courage to follow the commands of Christ.

OUR LIVE NATIONAL PRAYER BEGINS AT 8pm PDT -10pm CDT -11pm EDT
WELCOME FAMILY IN CHRIST!
Dear friends, welcome in the name of Jesus! After reading Janette's post "Love Expressed" I knew this one would compliment it. It's good to be with you. Please post any prayer requests as you sign in to pray. God's peace.
Thanks Debbie for leading us tonight. Every commandment given to us by God was well thought out for a better life for all of us. Every commandment has equal importance. Our God has made everything for us perfect starting with the Creation. Love and God Bless Maggie
Amen to that Maggie! How are you this evening?
Debbie, thank you for this wonderful post about obedience. I would like to ask for prayer for myself tonight. As you know, I have had bronchitis and had a chest x-ray and they didn't find pneumonia. My asthma and breathing seem to be getting worse. I am on breathing treatments, antibiotics and steroids. I will go back to the doctor tomorrow if I'm not feeling better. I really appreciate your prayers. It has been one thing after another lately.

I am doing better Debbie. Went to church last night and have read a lot of scripture today and God is showing me He is here with me. Things may not go the way I want but I must look for His purpose in each one. He will reveal it in His time. Love and God Bless Maggie
Laurie, so sorry to hear that. We will pray for your healing.
Those are all good things to do Maggie and you are right. God is in control.
Laurie I am praying for you. Is it posilbe you may have some mold somewhere in your house. It can hide itself and is hard to see. See if you can find where it is worse and you may be able to pin down the cause. The cold air can also be a culprit. Get lots of rest. Love and God Bless Maggie aka Mom
Debbie and Maggie, I am here with you. What a day it has been! We began our new series in our home church (Shepherd of the Hills in CA) today. It lit up the whole family! It is ANCHORED IN GOD'S WORD. We were given a journal that when done daily will lead us through the Bible in one year. The theme is exciting, the journal is exciting and we are having a tent revival in the fall!!!

The theme is exciting, the journal is exciting and we are having a tent revival in the fall!!! But that's not all there is a Bible study cruise in January from LA to Encinatas, MX in January for intense study. The rates are ridiculously reasonable! Maybe this is our reunion???
Just so you don't get confused, my away church is Gateway (in Texas)!
Laurie, I am finally here with you! I am so sorry to hear about your bronchitis. I got it in October and even with a course of antibiotics it did not leave me until early December. My doc told me it was quite a resistant strain. I am praying for your right now.
Welcome Janette...you are fired up!
You are so right Debbie, if you heard the prayer music in the background and my feet tapping (almost jumping) you'd see me rockin in the Lord!
As we prepare our hearts for prayer, let us declare this Scripture out loud...
New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)
The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
Debbie, I'm also looking out on my calendar and see that in February I get to meet you for the first time in person. Pastor Ron is coming out to LA so I get to see him. Tom Lynch is coming out to LA so I get to see him. Now, I just have got to figure out a way to get a bunch of us together as a group b/c I really miss Laurie, Maggie and all of the others I met. I also would love to meet Lisa and Dawn. Let's get our thinking caps on and plan this ladies!
I am here I will read the posts and return at quarter hour.
Dearest Jesus, the Great Physician. Touch our dear Laurie with Your healing hands. We pray that You remove all breathing issues and restore Laurie's lungs to normal. May she wake up refreshed by Your touch and singing praises unto you. We pray in Your STRONG name Jesus! Amen and Amen
Janette, I say we should add this request to our prayers. Let's pray God makes a way for all of us to meet.
Barbara welcome! Good to have you here with us!
Let's begin prayers for our country and each other....
Janette think about Branson Missouri which is almost central US, I have a great contact there that would help me get it set up. Let me know what many think and I will start working on it. Maybe you could get Gateway pastor to come. It is only a few hours from Dallas. Love and God Bless Maggie
HI, still looking for my dog! I fear the worst! I get to meet Tom Lynch on Jan 10th, he will be at The Villages about 1 1/2 hours from here. Praying for you Laurie!
Dear Lord, in your mercy, please reunite Dawn and her dog. We pray she is safe and sound and will eventually find her way back to Dawn. We pray this in Jesus' name, Amen.
