With the two-party system, our country's leaders enjoy majoritarian support from those who elect them. The alternative would be a European-style parliament in which various factions attempt to cobble together a winning coalition.
If we allow a third party to gain traction, we will be stepping onto a slippery slope. The same reasons that apply to recognition of a third party would also apply to a fourth, fifth, sixth and even more political parties. And then we are indistinguisable from a European-style parliamentary system.
We are America, folks. Stay off that slippery slope.

And by voting for someone who assumes the authority to assassinate us and to detain us without due process we achieve what? The answer would be a dictatorship Ray. Yup, now there's a slippery slope for ya.

Ray, your are finally saying what your agenda is. Please tell me how the Republican Party has been doing. Like I just posted on another topic

Good, I would take 6, or 10 party system! Then the elites would not be able to control all and maybe a couple of them would actually be for the constitution!!

2 years 2 weeks ago

Ray - as usual this is coming from someone that ignores the corruption in the one place you can actuallyDO something about it - ignoring the beam in front of your own eye while obsessing about the speck in someone else's is hypocrisy.

Ray, I gave you a thumbs up. The BEST alternative for a third party is to take over one of the other parties.

Ray, I noticed that you were given a thumbs down on your comment, I gave you a thumbs up.

Obviously you don't read very well Mr Frank!! You should not cast stones when you live in a glass house!! You and your amigo's are kings in insults and STILL can't answer several questions that have been asked of you. Now that alone is gutless...

Jeff, how much respect can someone expect when they are totally oblivious of the truth? Take over a party? Really? What part about what happened at the Republican convention do you not understand? The elite RNC board has taken it upon itself to make up the rules as the primaries in every state occur now. The party dictators have stopped flat even the slightest chance that the GOP is workable. Why do you persist in this thinking that wishing makes something so?

2 years 2 weeks ago

Oh, that's right Sue R, it will take just one election cycle to take over an established party.

2 years 2 weeks ago

Oh sheesh Jeff, and I'm not supposed to call you a bloomin' blind fool because that is not productive. Okie dokie. ONE election cycle? Where the heck have you been? What about 1988 are you trying to pretend didn't happen?
It's really nice that you live in the moment Jeff, but please be patient with those of us who have been wide awake and working to slap some smart into people for a really long time now.

"With the two-party system, our country's leaders enjoy majoritarian support

coalition." Well said Ray.

I'd give you a thumbs up but I consider thumbs down a good thing in this group and I don't want to mess with those.

Ray's whole premise is wrong Glenn. We don't have a two party system. We have a one party system that is running two candidates. Dictator Obama or dictator Romney. You get a choice of colors this year, that's all.

"There are several cowards on this web site. They are incapable of honest debate so they resort to name calling, insults, repeating false statements, and not answering questions. Some believe that insults are a winning strategy for a discussion. Insults makes a person look small and ineffectual."
No one has called anyone any names Jeff. Well I guess you just did for no apparent reason when you copy and pasted that old comment into this thread. Take a deep breath.

"Ray, I noticed that you were given a thumbs down on your comment, I gave you a thumbs up."
That still doesn't change the fact that his thinking is fundamentally flawed.
Its a one party system folks.Get a clue.

"Ray Bladders With the two-party system, our country's leaders enjoy majoritarian support from those who elect them. The alternative would be a European-style parliament in which various factions attempt to cobble together a winning coalition."

60% of the country are Independents. So only 40% are locked in to that 2 party hack job we have. We don't have a parliament, like the countries formally run by a monarchy. Having 5 or 6 parties doesn't give us a parliament.

Exactly Mitch, but it made Glenn feel smart to say it anyway :) Maybe we should all give him the thumbs up so he feels good about himself without having to make up a bunch of BS.

After a year of this FC experience, I now know I would never make a good pre-school teacher.

Jeff posted an article that got him 10 thumbs up! When he awoke from his slumber he realized it was all a dream..and that he had once again sh*t the bed. : )

You would be a great teacher RG. It's different when you are teaching kids and they struggle to grasp things. We are dealing with adults here and they should know better by now!

Sue I could look at it as being a three party system as is without the petty Libertarian, Green etc parties. Independents are essentially the third party that forms a coalition with the R or D party. All done without the sloppy mess of coalitions falling apart in the middle of a term because some splinter group gets a hair up its butt. For real change we need 2010 repeated for the next few elections.

Independents vote for either R or D, so they can't be labeled as a 3rd party. They are in fact uncommitted voters of a 2 party system.I want less R's and D's in government.

2 years 2 weeks ago

Glenn, in case you haven't noticed, 2010 was a bust. The Tea Party candidates lied. We got them there and they stabbed us in the back.

The idealists here, while their ideals differ greatly other than being against Mitt, can dance themselves into a whirling dervish frenzy but will accomplish nothing. They actually hurt their cause(s) by looking as rediculous as the Occupy Wall Street crowd. Even their entertainment value fades fast.

Mitch -D are blue R are red I are purple. They are not registered R or D but I. Just takes a little imagination to see them as a party.
