Everyone's Plan B

A Call to Tea Party types to make sure your group does NOT become Useless!

November 19, 2012

A lot has been stated here, and elsewhere throughout the blogosphere, on how "useless" the Tea Party is because Obama got re-elected, and that we didn't even have a Tea Party alternative in the Republican Party. Many "establishment" types are saying the lesson of the election is that we should become more "moderate" to appeal to swing voters, instead of holding on to Conservative principles.

MAKE SURE THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN!

There are 3 different "Tea Party" type groups in my area. Two of them (who I will not name here) are monthly gatherings were like-minded Tea Partiers get together to socialize, hear a good speaker, pat themselves on the back for their "integrity" and complain about how bad the current state of the Country is. Then they go home, continue on with their lives, and wait for the next monthly meeting.

Don't get me wrong - these are good people, and their hearts are in the right place. But are they making a difference? Will the “establishment” Republicans take notice of them and adopt conservative positions? Will it result in a restoration of Constitutional Values in our Government?
In otherwords, if they have no real impact, they are essentially useless!

The third group is setting up a steering committee to re-focus efforts on how to make a difference outside of our circle of friends. We are developing an actino plan based upon 4 goals:
- Identify, recruit and promote good Conservative candidates for local offices, as the building blocks for future Conservative leaders.
- Train candidates and volunteers now, to be ready for conducting successful campaigns.
- Develop messaging strategies to reach out to voters beyond those who already agree with us.
- Develop a database on potential voters in off-cycle years that can be used in future get-out-the-vote efforts.

We are one small group, in one local area, but if replicated by Tea Party types throughout the country, we have a real chance to turn our country around. Are you in?

Norman I live in Kentucky and I am working with a couple of people on the same thing one thing to do is contact Micheal Frisbee about getting involved in your precinct.

I am a Precinct Leader, and member of the Steering Committee mentioned above. The effort above is spearheaded by my District Captain.
We are trying to push this effort to the State Comittee and to other states.

Norman, I mean no disrespect for what I am about to say, I just call them as I see them. I am not a genius nor am I a doctor. I do not know everything, but the "tea party" seems to me to be a "party" that started out on life support because the brain didn't develop enough for it to be able to breathe on it's own.

William you have been eating to many crawl fish or your smoking something!!!!

LOL...Lisa,crawfish are out of season, and I can't afford a vacation to Colorado thanks to Hussein. True enough, there are some good people associated with the tea "party". However, it seems to me that they are just another group that is akin to dems and repubs. They want things their way and at the first hint of trouble or having t put up a real fight, they vanish.

The Tea Party over-all is a failure and to closely aligned with the GOP. The candidates pushed by the TP have proven to be nothing but GOP yes votes. Big government and liberty stealing bills is all they have helped push. Conservative does not mean Constitution minded.

Thank you Mitch, Thank you !!!

William - no offense taken. We sharpen each other through challenging ideas and discussions.
My take on "Tea Party" types - I see three types. One group got excited when the whole phenomenon emerged, got involved, got discouraged, and dropped off the radar screen. A Second group created the on-going social groups that get together to gripe and pat each other on the back (as noted above), and didn't end up really doing much.

they became useless when they back Romney. They rolled the dice, and lost, now they have no credibility

1 year 4 months ago

They started with the Libertarian view of being fiscally conservative. Then they seemed to adapt the GOP party platform, and flat bombed. I agree JSN, we saw it day in and day out on here.

"Vote Romney he is our best chance to get rid of Obama"

They lost all creditably in my eyes on that one.

Well, the "TEA Party" really do3esn't even know itself. THE FATHER OF THE TEA PARTY IS RON PAUL! But so many who are supposed to be TEA Party talked a lot of trash about how terrible he was. IF YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF TEA PARTY, THEN YOU NEED TO REPENT FOR YOUR STUPIDITY IN SUPPORTING ANYONE BUT RON PAUL! YOU NEED TO STUDY WHAT RON PAUL HAS SAID AND STILL IS SAYING AND EMBRACE IT, OR STOP CALLING YOURSELF TEA PARTY BECAUSE YOU ARE A NEOCON RINO!

Sorry, I am still not understanding your alternative. If the Tea Party support was not enough to oust Obama, how do we get enough momentum behind a better candidate? How do we counter the Progressive arguments with a small core of true believers who refuse to work with those who are not pure enough? I am not trying to put you down - I seriously want to hear your plans to turn this country around (because we sure need it!).

1 year 4 months ago

The Tea Party backed a progressive over another progressive. Also what do you mean "true believers"? What exactly are you backing conservatism or the Constitution? Like Michael says the TP doesn't even know what it stands for.

1 year 4 months ago

Mitch - I think most Tea Party people believe in the Constitution, and adhering to Constitutionally limited Government. There may be disagreement on some of the applications of that principle. It is not a monolithic organization, though there are some groups that have sprung up to "represent" the movement. But there does need to be some organization to focus the actual efforts of the people into actual effective actions.

Norman, sounds like my kind of Tea party. The other two groups can be organized by the third with a little leadership. Which area are you in?

1 year 4 months ago

A huge step in the right direction would be to abandon the GOP and the Democrats..

Party patriotism killed the tea party, A glaring fact on this site !!

Not to mention the panic cry, Only Romney can beat Obama

1 year 4 months ago

@Paul - I am in SE Denver area, so don't have any recommendations for your area of Calif. Suspect you have groups similar to ours, with much navel-gazing that needs to be directed toward productive action. We do intend to work with other groups to coordinate and gather volunteers. Some will not make the effort, but some will.

1 year 4 months ago

Norman, what you are not understanding is that if you do not have full cooperation and involvement from everyone, the effort will fail. The Tea "Party" has proven that.

1 year 4 months ago

William - that is exactly what I am understanding. The Tea Party formed a core of people who were energized to make a change in direction in our government - we had gone so far astray that the sleeping public awoke. But they were still a minority, and so their big dreams did not happen as quickly as hoped. So the people who are willing to do the hard, long effort are continuing to build on that base. There is a valid discussion on reforming or replacing the Republican party.

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately, mainly about leaving FC but there are so many good people here who do believe in our Republic, not their reconstructed version but what it was intended to be, you are the people who make me want to stay and give me some hope. I think what has bothered me the most is how people who really support our Constitution gets made out to be the enemy.

We need to have rational discussions, where we test our ideas against each other's ideas, so that we all come out better. But it does require civil discussion where we can disagree yet still work together.
