Everyone's Plan B

The philosophy of Liberty

January 28, 2013

Elegant in its simplicity, this is a complete and clear statement of the philosophy of liberty. The interesting question is this. Are clear, simple and unambiguous statements of our underlying principles the best way to bring the undecided independents over to our side? Or must we engage with all the wrong-thinking ideas that so many people carry around in their heads as "good" even though they violate these principles?

I think when we talk principles it will unite people. The problem is people ignore principles in favor of policy

Again, I think this is an excellent post. Simple enough for even the most dense to understand, but the question is "Do they want to understand?" Principle over policy sure would cut some deep (in the pocket, of course)

This video can be misleading as it suggests a world view rather than acknowledging it is from an American perspective. It reinforces the concept of liberty intended to be infused into American citizens by the Constitution and the interactions between our government and our citizens. We will need a generation, twenty years, one score, to reverse the damage accomplished by the communist-influenced Dewey educational system which has corrupted the American value system and human actions.

Not sure I agree with you there William. Liberty is universal, not American. Liberty created America, America did not create Liberty

Liberty is universal. We agree on that.
I'm allowing for the fact that different people across the world will have different definitions of liberty.
The vision of liberty presented in the video had an American bias from my perspective.
The point I seemed to have failed to make is I am an American citizen, I understand the meaning of liberty as developed by our American Founders, and I am committed to perserving liberty for future generations of American citizens.

Don, I think when we keep it simple, as the video does, we win people over, it's when we complicate it, that is when we did not win them over. All too many people will say they support what is being said until, whatever it is they disagree with and that is where it fall apart and they are violating the rights of others and people are no longer interested in the concept.

William, if I may ask, why should we worry about the world, should we not worry about ourselves first and then others might just want to follow. One of the problems I see is, as a Nation, we are telling countries one thing but doing another and the end result they see is not what they are being told. I think Jefferson, Bastiat and many others were saying the same thing, just more eloquently or from an educated perception.

By law good sir, we should be proponents of what you suggest.
That is my point regarding how the conduct of the Executive Office of the United States should be operated by a Chief Executive.
More to the point, on any given Sunday, we could proclaim the President of the United States to be Keeper of the Constitution.
Until that day, we must press on to correct government to be more supportive of liberty.
