One of the most important governmental function is the building and maintaining our infrastructure , including our roads. This is not the time for a knee jerk reaction to washingtons or local governments to manage their responsibility. We need to make them do what they are supposed to do.
Would you want a private army defending our sovienty? Our roads are a partof that same freedom, make the government do what it's supposed to do.

Roads are essential to all of us. We all pay for them (contrary to the left's you didn't build that view). Who better to maintain roads than those who use them locally. Suggestion: First, bring all federal agencies regarding roads into the Department of Transportation. (2 I know of are American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and of course Federal Highway Administration. There may be more.) Second, give States all federal dollars collected to fund state employees to maintain federal mandated roads within their borders along with established maintainance requirements. Third, give federal senators authority to petition congress for added funding needed for emergency maintainance within their borders. All that would be left to debate would be the cost, and maintainance requirements. Finally, require all states to provide federally mandated road funding cost reports to the taxpayers anually.

It is becoming more clear every day that government is not working at even a hint of efficiency. We've all watched Fox News as we learned the real story the major networks were not reporting on. So in my small opinion, Washington's control of our lives isn't working out too well. I believe each state should become independent in governing their districts. That way, we can keep a better control of this unbelievable waste we keep hearing of, day after day!
However, since the election and Romney's defeat, I've become more involved in what is going on in my church, community, etc. I'm one of those Evangelical Christians that hopes the End Times Prophecies will be fulfilled quickly! To me, Obama's victory was also mine! But, we should be about the Lord's business of bringing the Gospel to a "...lost and dying world..."

A better question would be: How should they be privatized? I have driven on many private roads and most of them were the worst maintained byways I have ever travelled because most of the co-owners didn't want to or couldn't be bothered to maintaing them. So how would you solve that situation? A road maintenance assessment district? User fees (aka tolls)? How would you divide the costs up fairly and equitably? How would you claim and get the pro-rata share of State and Federal gas taxes? The answers would determine how successful private ownership and the quality of the user experience would be...

we should not have to pay money in the form of toll fees for access to our roads, which happens with both government and private ownership, We have no voice against profit schemes when our roads are owned by a for profit private company, but this tactic should not be used by government either ~ as toll fee schemes are never ending, and governments at every level are focusing more on profit.

If privatization of roads where in the hands of national corporations they may be cost effective. However if this privatization was in the control of the federal reserve which is a foreign owned group of central international banking corporations, then the control of American roads and freeways may be manipulated and the costs could be actually higher as the payoffs and corruption would them leave the US as out tax dollars have bin stolen to profligate war. ?
