January 6, 2013

Did you guys hear that H.J. Res 15 just proposed on Friday a constitutional amendment removing the 2-term term limit from the President?

He proposes it every year. It goes no where.

I have been reading about policies of past presidents lately. This fight we are fighting today, politically, is very similar to the ones that have been fought in our country for decades, if not centuries. Carter wanted to put everyone in government housing complexes, which seems to me to be a very socialist thing to do. Then Reagan came along and his so-called extreme right views became the mainstream political thought.

Core American values like those expressed in the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, among some other fundamental writing of the founding fathers, are indeed winning philosophies. Provided we are not sabotaged from within by disrespect of fellow Americans and ridiculous slanders.

Mr. Serrano first introduced this legislation during the 2nd Clinton Administration. He has reintroduced it in virtually every Congressional session since. In 15 years, this has gotten no traction. However, given the recent "fiscal cliff" vote, nothing surprises me.

If Obama's policies are not reversed by responsible Congress men/women we will see chaos very soon. When the food stamp crowd no longer receive those benefits they will riot and become dangerous.

The 22nd amendment was necessary because historically administrations began grabbing more and more power while "separate" powers sat by and let it happen. It was a brilliant move to ensure a Dictator would never become Commander and Chief of the most powerful military in the history of the world.

But (Bob Whitehurst), Obama has done a really good job of ignoring the Constitution. Why would he suddenly respect the 22nd amendment?

Elucidator - I am not convinced there will be a revolution (not that it wouldn't be justified). It just seems to me that Aldous Huxley's vision of dystopia (Brave New World) more accurately describes where we are presently.

This isn’t the first time Serrano has proposed this idea. He’s done it multiple times in the past under Clinton’s administration and even George W. Bush’s. In fact, he’s introduced this amendment every 2 years since 1997.

Arguments I hear that support repeal of term limits are based on "continuity". The belief is that governments are such complex critters that an enormous learning investment is needed to "get things done" or "improve the systems". This is the view commonly held by advocates of big unlimited governments - Totalitarians whether they realize it or not.

Instead of martial law he'll just sign another executive order and take power. That's more his style, knife in the back and a nose thumb at the constitution.

This is an interesting take on fixing the problem of representation (I recently read a similar opinion on patterning after our founders' method of using part-time reps, with maximums set on the number of constituents each one represented)http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/09/opinion/flynn-expand-congress/index.html
