The congress has control of the purse strings . they have to ok all spending every year that is not mandatory. There is so much money going into Washington. They believe they have an unlimited supply and can spend money on any and everything regardless how stupid.

How can you stop the spending when the senators attach amendment to Bills that must be passed. The Sandy Relief Bill-- $60 Billion dollars with $30 Billion going else where not even connected to the Sandy relief victims.

I think the GOP should shut down the Government anyway. This Nation is in a major crisis. People have been out of work for years. The GOP needs to stop worrying about their jobs and do their jobs. Shut off the Money supply if they can.

Let me see, our Senate can't do it's job so we will penalize government worker and companies that contract with the government. That just doesn't sound right to me. I think we need to all contact all 100 Senators and tell them to DO THEIR JOBS.

Shut it all down and don't start it up again until the debt is paid and the budget is balanced. If we did this in our personal lives we'd be in jail. Hmmm.....there's another idea!!!

I understand your frustration with the GOP. But if they leave town, you know the other party has no plan but to spend until the economy collapses. Even if the GOP grows a spine and shuts it all down we may still need a miracle to avoid total economic collapse.

Interest on the debt can still be paid and there will be no default with a government shut down. Lord knows, tax revenues are still rolling in. But a shut down would force these characters to talk turkey about where they are going to cut.

There is plenty of money to pay bills and cover the interest. Shut down, get the spending under control. If there are nonessential departments that can be shut down they shouldn't be there anyway.
