Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs: A New Cancer Risk in Your Home | The Alliance for Natural Health USA

Via anh-usa.org » Submitted On Wed, 02/20/2013 - 8:04am by Maria

February 19, 2013 Have the government and General Electric lied to us? Action Alert! The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA) mandates the phase-out of incandescent light bulbs, and favors energy-efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. Sounds good-until you realize that CFL bulbs contain mercury, and mercury poses a significant cancer risk.

If there is some hope in this, the price of LED bulbs is coming down due to competition and increase in production.

I use these new bulbs, but never touch them barehanded! Don't like them at all! This is just another example of our government doing things it has no right to do! Both sides are to blame and the people will have to stop them!

We DO NOT USE them. There are places to buy other bulbs. Our home is stocked with them. If we can no longer find the Old Style Bulbs...then looks like candles and gas lighting is the option. These Compact bulbs are poison, so why even buy them?

I've seen incandescent bulbs at Wal Mart. The package states "Made in China", Maybe that the 98 watt bulbs posted above. We stocked up, a little at a time over a few years.

Same issue with solar cells containing heavy metals and other toxins. The wind mills near Palm Springs kill migratory birds, which is denied by the wind turbine industry. Disposal of lithium ion batteries for electric and hybrid cars will be creating an environmental nightmare soon.

the light bulbs that the government now requires you to buy have Mercury in them. Government made every one stop making stuff with Mercury in it , now the government is going to make you buy lights with Mercury in them.

Every fluorescent tube made since they were invented has used mercury as part of the conductive plasma gas inside. That black ring at the end of a tube as it approaches end of life ... that is the mercury being absorbed by the phosphor coating (P4, same as black & White TV).

Isabel, do you currently do work for the Online Work at Home noted in the link? If my style is what caught your attention, I've been published and was a contributing editor of a technical magazine years ago.

Incadescent bulbs are still available if bought as "rough service" or in 130 volt varieties. Easy to find online, and are reasonable priced. 130 volt lamps last longer because they tend not to go out with small power surges, like flipping the light switch to "on."

This is bs! I have worked in China for 30 years. You think they give a damn about light bulbs! This is the same manufacturing scam as the refrigerant replacement 10 years ago. It's all about commerce and manufacturing, which is great.

This is one of the greatest examples of government interference in the market I can come up with. And it is at such an infantile level. This law had very few public reviews and greatly benefited one company .

Where is the massive drive to launch a major law suite against the EPA, GE and NBC for contaminating the environment with hazard materials like the suite that went against Winston and Salem for baiting their tobacco with nicotine in their ready roles which contained warning labels for the users.

Does anybody know what the FCC approval means?

1 year 6 months ago

It means that it meets the FCC guidlines for Radio Frequency interference at an acceptable level.
