Gingrich: GOP ‘Incapable Of Competing’ Against Hillary Clinton In 2016
-----------------
WASHINGTON (CBS DC) – Despite repeated denials from Hillary Clinton about a possible 2016 presidential run, former GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich stated his party would be “incapable of competing” against her and the Democrats.

The former Republican Speaker of the House expressed negativity about his own party’s chances in 2016 with NBC’s “Meet The Press” on Sunday. He said that the combined support of Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, and a presumably still-popular President Barack Obama would be an unstoppable campaign.

“Trying to win that will truly be the Super Bowl,” said Gingrich. “The Republican Party of today is truly incapable of competing at that level.”

According to recent polls, many Americans agree with Gingrich.

A recent Siena poll found that Hillary Clinton is “viewed favorably” by 75 percent of respondents. And a Washington Post poll found not only do more than two-thirds of Americans approve of the way Clinton is handling her current job as secretary of state, but also that 57 percent would support her for president in a 2016 run.

Former Clinton aide and Democratic strategist James Carville upped the ante for the Hillary bandwagon, telling ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that he doesn’t know what Hillary will do, but people want her to run. “The Democrats want her to run – like 90 percent across the country,” said Carville.

But Clinton has repeatedly denied she will pursue the presidential office in 2016. Last April, Clinton told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, “Look, I’m flattered. I am honored. That is not in the future for me.” She ran unsuccessfully against President Obama in a heated 2008 primary.

Speculation has also been muted by her husband, former President Bill Clinton.

Former President Clinton told “Face the Nation” in September that he has “no Earthly idea” whether his wife would seek the office again but voiced his full-throated support for the idea.

“She’s tired,” he said. “She wants to take some time off, kind of regroup. Write a book.”

Billary is a communist ideolog, jut like her husband. It was he that helped destroy this nation with his support of of NAFTA.
Their time in DC needs to be ended. She is part of the problem. . .
We need some new blood in the halls of DC. We do not need anyone that has a muslim as her secretary anywhere near DC. . .

The candidate opposing the Democrat MUST be able to explain why receiving "goodies" from the Federal Government is bad. Without being able to do that the Democrats will continue to win and the Republicans will be Democrat light to get votes.

While I really like Gingrich I think his day is over. We need a new face.

Boy I couldn't agree more with Dwight's thread. They both should have been gone a long time ago and craw back into the worm holes they came out of.

As for Newt, I like him. He has a since of making things dephlogisticated. He is not a cretin like BHO but this man knows history like no one else and history always seems to repeat itself.

I don't think Gingrich wanted to be president bad enough I think he gave it a half-hearted try in 2012

I think he would be a Great Sect. of State.

The best bet is Rand Paul. Pleasing to Libertarian Republicans and moderates. He reminds me of Andrew Jackson. He's the best person to beat Clinton.

Clinton is finished if the truth about Benghazi actually surfaces.

I truly believe that Clinton has America's best interest at heart and think that she'sher testimony will be damaging to Barack Obama.

I laud your discussion title
The problem is not as how some suggest that democrats some how give more goodies than republicans therefore win elections.
The Republicans merely support giving different people goodies than Democrats. The republicans believe that if you give goodies to the top it will trickle down to the bottom. The Democrats believe you should give goodies directly to the bottom.

@ Chris, Rand will face massive opposition from the Neo Conservatives. They may be few but they hold massive power in Republican circles.

The giving of "Goodies" occurs when you take money from some and give to others. Letting individuals keep more of what they earn is not a "Goodie".

I would rather focus on the elections for 2014, in our communities and state. If we ALL worked for that instead of concentrating on 2016, we might start the ball rolling for 2016...As far as the conservatives "giving" to the rich, think about people who own businesses and are taxed individually....you will kill so many jobs by taxing them more. That is NOT "giving", it is common sense not to stifle businesses who hire people....

No one is talking about income tax cuts. Income tax cuts are not giving money away. There are other forms of taxes besides income tax cuts. There are payroll taxes, inflation is a tax, debt is a tax, etc.

Jeff what kind of goodies do you get from Uncle Sam by selling sugar to Iran?

Should I jump into the "regulatory goodies" doled out by the ass hats from both isles in DC

I do not get ANY government benefits. Why do some have to get personal instead of debating the subject. Running against Hillary, or any other Democrat, without promising "Goodies" is a sure loser. To defeat the Democratic Candidate on Principals we must have an individual that can explain how debilitating it is to receive welfare payments.. If not, welfare will continue and expand. This is the real world.

using the government to get goodies or create markets so that you can get goodies or your goodies can benefit must be a major platform if conservatives are to win.
Romney lost simply because he did not either advocate for or believe in free markets.

1 year 10 months ago (Edited)

In a FREE MARKET the government does NOT get goodies or create goodies. The Federal Government has no role to play in a Free Market. The government should get out of the way and let individuals create and fail, prosper and decline, employee and fire, etc...

I understand that in our society there will be interference with the Free Market so that there are safe work environments, clean air and water, etc... This is the nose of the camel under the edge of the tent. Soon the entire camel will be in the tent and there will be no Free Market.
