Here's the big Question ... Are Children and Young people Being strongly Influenced by Hard Core and Blood Drenched Video Games and violent media.

1 year 8 months ago

Are violent video games trainning young people to murder and kill without any restraint or conviction of evil? Are young adults being programmed to kill without conscience or second thought for the life of others and the innocent? Do these games actually promote mass murder as something to be admired and sought after or seen as a great acomplishment? What say you.

I don't buy that for a minute, it could be said it is a very small part but it is far from the reason. That would be the same as saying when I was a kid and playing cops and robbers or cowboys and Indians caused violence then. Look at the hate, distrust, spying, lies, spin, you name it, coming from every levels of society and then see if coming from video games. Non of that is new but what is new is being able to see how bad it is everywhere.

Yes, this stuff is our kid's babysitter... Every(?) kid was a TV ( an educated guess)... they spend more time in form of a tv with a MSM program or Hollywood folly. Both violent. They spend little time on average with their parents, who again send them to their room to watch TV, computer, video games etc.... again not all kids, but in this case it only takes one.

I think that for the ones who are already screwed up in the head, these video games can be very bad. But the games are not the cause. Just an aggravating factor no worse than drugs or alcohol.

It may play a part in the cultural breakdown of this country, but there is Hollywood films about violence far outdoes it. It treats life as little thing, when it is the only thing. Life is to be revered, and not meant to be a bit player in some action adventure film.
Culture that does not openly thank God for the gift that is bestowed upon them, will take it for granted. That is what is tragic.

IMO today's "X,Y,Z" generations have been 'desensitized' by the 'first shooter' video games (and 'slasher' and 'shoot em up' movies) which their parents have allowed them to play (and see) and who have probably 'killed' more people in 'combat' by the time they reach maturity than our entire military has since the Revolutionary War.

Isn't it best to rid society of another "drug or alcohol"? The MSM we can deal with, alcohol we do deal with, the results are not positive always, but there is an effort, and the war on drugs, is a WAR! Why allow for a constant imprinting of violence into a childs mind... there comes a moment when a child won't process a "movie" from real life, and I think we just saw that in CT? I don't think this kids was on a drug rage or smashed on alcohol... but I'll bet he loved video games....

The "M" rating given to many of the most violent and graphic games actually means these games should not be viewed or played by anyone under the age of 17 because the very violent and graphic secenes can be psychologically damaging to younger viewers. Graphic Violent movies can have the same damaging affect on younger viewers.

According to the latest news reports the Connecticut shooter was heavily into violent video games.

So true Tom-
I've involved myself with 8 year olds playing "Call of Duty" (mature version) all day, doing nothing else except snack. Inquisitive, I sat down and played it with them. This game, like many, is an intense irrational realistic violent game of blood and guts, where these boys knew the name of every military gun, more than most veterans know.

Participating in a violent act, be it a video game or real warfare does not "create" a violent person. The proof is that the abject bloody terror of World War 2 experienced by millions of Americans did not create a generation of violent criminals. Criminals are created partially by genetics and partially by environment, mostly by bad parenting.

I think Deb's post shows what the combination of bad parenting and bad video games is leading many in our society into with nothing to restrain or prohibit serious deadly consequences.

I think that human beings are pre-programed , (by God or nature), to lean towards non violence. That's why soldiers have to be taught to kill. But there are some who are either damaged or genetically defective that go there naturally.

Does anyone ponder how kids are spending their time?

If kids spend time in vices they are living in less goodness. I mean... smoking cigarettes, drinking brew dawgs, shooting smack etc, eventually these behaviors has a counter health effect in their young lives. It sets a life tone only God will be able to set right in many cases.

I think the movie and game question is bunk it may contribute some but when i was young they had Dirty Harry and friday the 13th etc. etc. and you never had this mass shooting garbage, I think the problem is all the lack of discipline . When I was young if I did something wrong I got spanked or paddled and I learned . Now it is politically uncorrect to discipline your kids, I have 2 kids and I can say with certainty that they would never do something like this .

Please Mitch. Do you realize how many parents give their children whatever they want to keep them quiet and out of the way?
Yes, I believe it's built within us to lean towards non-violence, but at young ages, children are being programed to kill as many as they can enjoying the THRILL and REWARDED for it.
Bad parenting is as common as violent games are being played.

What I said about genetic or divine non-violent encoding was predicated on a moral society. What the liberals are doing is chipping away at that morality, taking humanity to an awful place it was never meant to go. And it is showing. Liberals are the most evil predators to ever walk the planet. A predator kills it's prey and eats it to survive. Evil predators incite their prey to kill each other.

Do you know what I NEVER hear in America? Talk about making people freer. When will there be a conversation about undoing some laws, repealing some restrictions, freeing some prisoners, and otherwise ceasing the gigantic, ongoing clampdown that has us the most felt-up, jailed, monitored people not only in American history, but in the Western World?

1 year 8 months ago

Last time that happened, Ronald Reagan was the President. All except for the release of prisoners. Who is it that is in prison right now who does not belong there, Justy?

I believe that some are born with bad wiring and eventually the wiring shorts out. It don't have nothing to do with games or movies, if you watch the nightly news it is as violent as the games or movies. Should we band the news? No. So we shouldn't take the games, movies or even guns away, this is life and bad things happen. All we can do is nurture our children the best we can do and leave the rest to God.

My 9 year old gradnson playsome ware game online. Then he wants to play marbles with me. Something that I have exposed him to. He really would rather compete against me personally, than on a game. He challenged me to a war game thing, and I, having never even held one of those games got creamed. He bored very quickly of that, but insisted that we play marbles some more. It is just a little step in the right direction. Next is Yoyos, and tops. . .

If these games and movies are not dangerous why do the authorities put Restricted and for Mature Adults Ratings on them? Do these ratings actually keep young people from seeing and using them?

1 year 8 months ago

They put these warning labels on games and movies as a guide for the parents, if the kids want to play these games or watch these movies the will find a way, after all they are not stupid just immature.

1 year 8 months ago

Why do they put ratings on them? To cover their own asses, that's why!

Remember this? Thank Tipper Gore and her part in rating music back in the 80's and the branching out to video games ratings:

May I ask why is "50 Shades of Grey" doesn't fall under this type of ratings scrutiny also? Another example of double standards or is it just my imagination?
